This course is aimed at the mountain leader, bush craft or expedition leader who wants to learn a number of safe river crossing techniques. All participants need to be a competent swimmer and hold a first aid certificate or be in the process of obtaining one. The course is run over two days and is based in woodland. All specialist equipment is provided and equipment can be borrowed. Participants to provide their own food and shelter either a tent or a basha. Students to arrive Friday night 17.00 and depart Sunday 16.30. |

RIVER CROSSING |
|
Day 1
Safety, first aid. Hazards, hydrology. Safe swim/ throw line. Wedge, huddle, v, and use of a pole.
LUNCH
Improvised floatation/ buoyancy. Raft. Tension diagonal, deployment. Rope work handling. Mini group exercise whole group cross the river, have lunch make fire.
Day 2
Introduction to knots. Plies 3.1 hauling systems.
No knot. Releasable systems. Belays.
LUNCH
Tyrolean traverse group exercise. |
